The Prince Kuhio Celebration is just days away beginning on March 11, 2012. The celebration has expanded this year to 14 days of entertainment and great things to do in the Poipu Beach area. Here is our events schedule for your convenience:
Pacific International Free Diving and Spearfishing Championships
Sunday March 11 through Friday March 16, 2012
This event is new this year. Kauai will host teams from Australia, New Zealand, Guam, New Caledonia, and Tahiti. Catch the Awards Banquet at Joe’s on the Green on Friday March 16 at 5pm
Prince Kuhio Rodeo
Sunday March 18 at CJM Stables at 10am
This popular event brings Hawaii’s best cowboys and cowgirls, paniolostogether for barrel racing, calf roping. There is no charge for this event.
Wisdom of the Kupuna
Sunday March 18 at the NTBG (across from Spouting Horn) at 11am
Here Kupuna Mele Brewer discuss the ancient Hawaiian proverbs and stories that are still very relevant today
The Art and Culture of Hawaiian Salt Making
Monday March 19 at Salt Pond Park in Hanapepe at 9.30am
The art of making salt is over 1000 years old for the Hawaiians of Hanapepe Valley. Learn about their connections to this very special area of Kauai and about some of the families that have been working these plots for centuries.
A Royal Hawaiian Dinner
Tuesday March 20 at Plantation Gardens Restaurant on Poipu Road at 5.30pm

Wednesday March 21 at the Mariott’s Waiohai Beach Resort on Poipu Road at 10am

Prince Kuhio Luau
Thursday March 22 at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa on Poipu Road at 5.30pm

Opening Protocol Honoring Prince Kuhio
Friday March 23 at Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa at 1.30pm
Hawaiian cultural demonstrations will begin at from 2pm and last until 7pm

At the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall at 5pm March 23 There is an $8 entrance fee. Brought to you by the local PAL League of Kauai.
Prince Kuhio Commemorative Ceremonies
Saturday March 24 at Prince Kuhio Park on Lawai Road at 10am Observe opening ceremonies and celebration to the Statesman Prince.
43rd Annual Prince Kuhio Long Distance Canoe Race
Saturday March 24 at Kalapaki Beach at 10am Teams will finish at Poipu Beach State Park.

Hawaiian Entertainment at Grand Hyatt Kauai
Saturday March 24 at 6pm Starts with great Hawaiian entertainment and the children’s Hula Show at 7pm on the Seaview Terrace, Free.
Taiko Drumming and Craft Fair

Prince Kuhio Birthday Celebration
Monday March 26 at the Grand Hyatt Kauai at 6pm with opening torch lighting ceremony. Hawaiian music and traditional Hula show will highlight the evening. Here is a little hula to put you in the mood.
