Kiahuna Golf Course

Kukuiolono Municipal Golf Course

854 Puu Rd., Kalaheo. 332-9151

It is the best golf value on the island at 9 dollars for 9 holes. This public golf course was built in 1929 and later donated to the state by Walter McBryde. It was only the second course to be built on Kauai. Today is one of the finest, and certainly the least expensive course in the state. For only $9 per day, a person can play to their hearts content. Duncan McBryde developed this land after leasing it from King Kamehameha III in 1860. His son, Walter, eventually purchased the 178-acre estate. He loved the area so much that he was buried near the 8th hole of the golf course. The park features a small Japanese Garden, legend stones and beautiful panoramic views.

Poipu Bay Golf Course

2250 Ainako St. Poipu at the Hyatt Resort and Spa 742.8711 www.poipubaygolf.com

This outstanding course is backed by lush emerald mountains and sculpted from a rolling plateau eight stories above the Pacific Ocean. Nestled among the gentle contours of Poipu Bay you’ll discover the remains of Hawaiian heiau (places of worship) and ancient stone walls. If this weren’t challenge enough, Mother Nature presents you with one distraction after another. You just may see wild native nene geese and rare Hawaiian monk seals to green sea turtles and humpback whales, you just may experience a scorecard like no other.

Puakea Golf Course

4150 Nuhou St., Lihue 245.8756 www.puakeagolf.com.

The course is resort quality and built on more than 200 acres of historic property, which was once a sugar cane plantation. One thing that has remained the same at Puakea Golf Course is its high-quality, “Kauai style” customer service. Puakea was rated 7th Best in Hawaii by Golfweek in 2008.
